Conservation Zero-Hour Worker Pool Job: Victoria and Albert Museum

Job Description in full

Zero-Hour Worker Availability

V&A is the world’s most prestigious museum of decorative and applied arts, housing one of the world’s most comprehensive collections. Public programmes, such as those offered at all of the V&A’s UK locations as well as on tours abroad, are an important part of the museum’s mission. It is imperative that we be able to respond swiftly and effectively to a dynamic planning process that often brings together collections from around the world and with unanticipated treatment and display requirements.

There is a growing pool of freelance conservators who are interested in collaborating with us on short-term projects to help with the conservation and presentation of artefacts for loan and temporary exhibits and displays that we have just resumed a full 7-day operation. The following will be among the responsibilities:

Monitoring, documenting, and reporting on the state of various items
Treatments for certain objects
Preparation of textile and fashion artefacts for exhibition
Applications from early-career conservators who have a recognised professional conservation qualification and broad object understanding and handling are also welcome. As a result of this course, you will be able to demonstrate practical abilities in the conservation of important materials (organic and inorganic).
